Every so often I get a chance to photograph a friend’s wedding and when it happens to be a destination wedding, it just makes it even that more special. That destination was St. Maarten. If we rewind 10 years, I was working in St. Maarten as a cruise director on a cruise ship where I met my friends Sandra and Steve who were working with a dive company and the famous 12-Metre Regatta sailing boats. Apart from working together, we slowly built a close friendship that has lasted until today. After years of working in the Caribbean, they decided to move to the Netherlands (where Sandra is from) to start a new life together away from the island life they had grown so accustomed to. Their outgoing, fun and care-free personalties has never left them and that’s what I love about them.
Their ceremony took place at the Dreams Beach Bar Restaurant on the French side of the island. But the day began on the Dutch side of the island where we journeyed around getting photos with spectacular views. Their first look took place at Fort Amsterdam with a pristine view overlooking Great Bay in Philipsburg. We stopped at Maho Beach to watch the airplanes land before heading to where their boat was waiting to take them to the venue. They hopped on the boat and arrived on the pier where all their friends and family were waiting. After the ceremony, it was cocktail drinks while enjoying the sunset, dinner and outdoor (wild) party in the warm Caribbean breeze.
