Getting married in Italy is a dream for many foreign couples. The vast landscape, the historical medieval towns peppered over the rolling hills, and the favorable weather throughout the year makes Tuscany one of the most beautiful regions of Italy to visit and get married. So as you can imagine, I was excited when Annemarie and Stefan booked me for their wedding. As a photographer I knew I was in for a treat. And so the countdown began.
Annemarie and Stefan, both from the Netherlands, wanted the destination wedding of their dreams. They decided to get married in Volterra, one of the most charming towns in Tuscany dating back to the 7th century BC. Volterra sits on top of a hill surrounded by an ancient wall and walking through the narrow streets felt like walking back in time. I arrived a couple days before the wedding to scout the area and get a feel of the Tuscan vibe. I immediately fell in love with the town and the spectacular views surrounding it.
The wedding day went as planned (with the exception of a few morning showers). The first look was emotional for everyone present, but more so for Stefan when he first saw Annemarie appear in her stunning dress as the doors opened. It was a beautiful moment that would be the beginning of a wonderful day. The ceremony took place at the Palazzo dei Priori, the oldest civic building in all of Tuscany. After the ceremony, the rain miraculously stopped and everyone headed outside to explore a bit of the town. Annemarie and Stefan naturally drew attention from unsuspecting tourists but in the end were able to enjoy a walk together in the town and eventually outside in the fields. We finished off in the countryside on a dirt road lined up by cypress trees on both sides, just in time before the rain would eventually return. How about that for planning?
