Arnold and Katharina’s beach wedding at Elements Beach in ‘s Gravenzande was exactly what they wanted. It was fun, relaxing, and above all, gezellig, as the Dutch say. But this wedding was more than just Dutch, it was part German as well. Katharina is German and so naturally they incorporated some German traditions, one of which is to cut a wooden log together immediately after the ceremony. This symbolizes the first obstacle that a couple must overcome in their marriage. Luckily for them, they succeeded in cutting the log!
We started the day on the beach taking in the magnificent views of the endless sand dunes that run along the coastline. We continued past blue and white beach houses before descending upon a grape vineyard inside a greenhouse called De Westlandse Druif for some photos. After the photoshoot we returned to the beach where Arnold and Katharina made their grand entrance to begin the ceremony. The day cleared up and the sun came out just in time for the cocktail hour and an outdoor bbq accompanied by live Brazilian music. The whole venue was decorated with a beach vibe and all the tables had a music genre assigned to them. This of course was a preview for what was to come as Arnold and Katharina performed an awesome Salsa first dance. As the guests took over the dancefloor, we headed back to the beach to catch a glimpse of the sunset and cap off an amazing day.
