Love being back in Austria! This year I was lucky enough to head back to the old village of Brixen im Thale for a beautiful wedding in the mountains. Michael and Cathérine and their four children are from Belgium and wanted to have a destination wedding in the snow. What better place then up in the mountains of Austria? The views are spectacular and if you’re lucky, you get snow, clear blue skies and sun. Snow patches could be seen all throughout the village suggesting that winter was coming to an end. Up in the mountains was a different story. There was plenty of snow to enjoy, so much in fact that Michael and Catherine and all the guests stayed for a whole week to go skiing.
The morning of the wedding day proved to be a great start, with sun and blue sky…oh and a cold breeze to remind you it’s still winter. The whole family got ready at Haus Tirol before heading up with the ski lift and arriving at the venue, a small wooden cabin tucked away in the mountains. Cathérine was the last one to arrive and made her grand entrance on a snowmobile. When she appeared at the end of the aisle in her stunning dress, Michael was speechless. They exchanged their vows and after a few touching words from some of the guests, everyone was brought to tears.
Following the ceremony, the guests headed outside for drinks and to enjoy the bright warm sun while Michael and Cathérine took some time for themselves to enjoy the peacefulness of the natural surroundings. Halfway through the shoot, their children surprised them with a snowball fight. After wiping off all the snow, they headed down the mountain for some hot chocolate, dinner at Thalhof restaurant, and a first dance back at their lodge. A perfect ending to a perfect day.
As always, here are some of my favorite shots of the day.
