There are some weddings where you feel so welcomed and part of the group that you forget that you were there to shoot a wedding. Astrid and Andrew’s wedding was definitely one of those weddings. I had met them both a year ago at a wedding I shot for Astrid’s cousin in the Netherlands. When they found out I was also American (like Andrew), we instantly connected. It’s always fun to meet expats where I live. So when they told me they were planning to get married in a farm in Maryland (where Andrew is from), I told them I was in! I knew instantly that I wanted to capture these two on their big day in the Maryland countryside.
When I arrived at Pond View Farm; a gorgeous venue situated in the countryside featuring an amazing red barn, open fields, and a huge emerald pond, the sun was shining and the warm summer breeze passed through. Astrid and her bridesmaids were busy with their preparations while next door, Andrew and his groomsmen were getting dressed while popping some cans of Bud Light. Astrid and Andrew each took a moment to read each other’s letters before heading out to a nearby chapel for the ceremony. We all then headed back to the farm on classic American yellow school buses. For the Dutch guests, this was extra special as these buses don’t exist in the Netherlands. I love how Astrid and Andrew put effort in all the subtle details throughout the day, from the buses, to the Dutch clogs bottle openers, to the flags painted on old wooden pallets. It was great to see two different cultures come together to celebrate. And celebrate they did! I think the photos speak for themselves.
Thanks to Astrid and Andrew for having me capture this special day! Here are some photos from the day..
